Double the steps to deal with corona: the World Health Organization

Times Online Reporter:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on all countries to redouble their efforts to combat the coronavirus epidemic. The director general of the company, Tedros Adhanom Gebreasus, made the call at an online press briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday.
As we know, these steps are effective. Find and test suspected patients, it is effective. Identify and quarantine every person who comes in contact with the patient and the suspected patient, it works. Take care of the health workers, it is also effective.
Maintain social distance, clean hands frequently, use masks whenever needed. We know these steps are effective. They are looking for ways to protect the people as well as acknowledge the social and economic damage as little as possible. But it is not a matter of choosing between life and livelihood. In this case, it is possible to protect both equally. Tedros Adhanom also spoke about the steroid drug dexamethasone. Dexamethasone can be a life-saving drug for critically ill patients with coronary heart disease, he said. However, the information that is available so far is at an early stage.Noting that tests conducted in the UK have been successful in the application of dexamethasone, Tedros Adhanom said the next challenge is to increase production and distribute it quickly and evenly around the world. At the time, he warned, the drug could only be applied to critically ill patients under intensive care. There is no evidence of efficacy of dexamethasone in patients with mild symptoms or corona prevention, but there is a risk of reverse harm if used in these cases. The director general of the World Health Organization said his organization had recently conducted a study on the impact of the epidemic on the health systems of different countries. So far 72 countries have responded. In more than half of these countries, at least one healthcare provider, such as an outpatient or community healthcare provider, has been limited or suspended. And about two-thirds of the country Regular immunization programs, non-communicable disease detection and treatment and family planning and birth control services are being hampered. Mental health care, antenatal care, cancer detection and treatment and pediatric care are being hampered in more than half of the countries.
Tedros Adhanom said different countries are trying to ensure healthcare in different ways. He said the world is learning through difficult situations that healthcare is not a luxury. It is the foundation of security, stability and development. So not only do we have to try to deal with the epidemic, we also have to invest in strengthening health care.
